Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah

Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah (ゴジラVSキングギドラ, Gojira tai kingugidora) is the tenth installment to the Godzilla Sagaverse. In the film, which is split into three parts, the world must rely on Godzilla as their last hope for survival to defeat King Ghidorah, who has awakened other monsters to destroy the world. It was followed by Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla.

Summary[]

Godzilla is back! This time, a foretold apocalyptic battle threatens the world. Rivals combine forces as the monsters of Earth face off against an ancient enemy unlike anything Godzilla has ever fought before: King Ghidorah, an extremely powerful and destructive three-headed dragon that descended upon the Earth many millennia ago to wipe out all life before being thwarted by guardian monsters Mothra, Baragon, and King Caesar. With his return to the world coming close, the humans (including EDF), the Shobijin Fairies, and the three guardians enlist Godzilla's help to stop King Ghidorah and his followers from destroying the world. In the most epic battle yet, the fate of the planet hangs in the balance and Godzilla is the only hope. Who will win: Godzilla, the King of the Monsters, or King Ghidorah, the King of Terror? In the end, there can be only one.

In ancient times 13,000 years ago, two space alien monsters, Ghidorah, an enormous and powerful three-headed dragon, and Gigan, a destructive, red-eyed Cyclops, came to the Earth. Ghidorah came to feed on all life on Earth and Gigan was there to stop any in their path. But three Earth guardian monsters, Mothra, the Guardian of the Earth…Baragon, the God of Earth…and King Caesar, the Guardian Monster of Okinawa, awoke to fight and stop the space aliens. Through a great struggle, the three guardian monsters won the battle. The guardians sealed King Ghidorah away in a gigantic tomb-like meteor and set it into space and Gigan retreated but 3,000 years later, he returned until he was defeated by Mothra and trapped in an ice prison.

Now, in the present year 2012, the three guardian monsters are dormant while others roam the Earth, including those on Monster Island, which is where Godzilla and other monsters live. After a couple small fights on Monster Island, a new and mysterious monster called MechaGodzilla awakens Gigan from his slumber.

Godzilla's old foe Mothra returns and asks for his help in defeating the soon to arrive aliens and goes to Mt. Fuji and comes across Kamacuras. After defeating the praying mantis, Gigan shows up with a MechaGodzilla. Eventually, Hedorah comes to help the aliens. And then after Godzilla's allies come to help, the alien dragon, King Ghidorah, has returned. And now, after the Monsters of Monster Island see the threat, they decided to defend their home and King Ghidorah, Gigan, MechaGodzilla, and Hedorah try to destroy the Earth and mankind.

So Godzilla, with help from the 3 guardian monsters, a mecha monster, and the other monsters of Monster Island, come to the Earth's defense. And tonight the future of the entire planet will be in Godzilla's hands, or on King Ghidorah's wings. Godzilla and Mothra are now all that stands in his way. How will it end?

Part I: The Foretold Awakening[]

Antarctica 8,000 BC, Mothra battles a cybernetic monster until the cyborg is defeated and imprisoned in ice. In the year 2012, following the events of Mothra I: Godzilla X Mothra, not only is the mummified monster discovered and sent to G.D.F base for study, but a colossal meteor lands on Earth, crashing near Mount Fuji. Elsewhere, in Outer Space, and unknown machine monster is flying towards Earth. To prepare for the upcoming battle, Mothra lays an egg, which leaves her physically exhausted. At Mount Myōkō, a mysterious earthquake briefly occurs. It occurs again later that night, burying a biker gang and leaving one surviving trucker, who witnesses seeing a red-colored monster.

While G.D.F. scientists study the meteor, finding the shape of a monster inside they codename "Monster Zero", the Shobijin and a smaller Mothra named Fairy examine the meteor and realize a great evil imprisoned within. The Shobijin present themselves to G.D.F. and explain their presence. For a start, they reveal the mummified monster discovered in the antarctic as Gigan, an alien cyborg sent to destroy the Earth who was ultimately defeated by Mothra. Additionally, they admit they predicted the arrival of Monster Zero, which they reveal its real name: King Ghidorah, a giant three-headed extraterrestrial dragon-like monster that destroyed many planets before arriving to Earth. The Shobijin then explain the story of how thousands of years ago, King Ghidorah and Gigan were defeated by three Guardian Monsters: Mothra, Baragon, and King Caesar, iterating that they must be awakened before King Ghidorah arises to destroy the Earth, explaining it in a prophecy.

"When the mountain of darkness descends from the sky, the King of Terror shall ascend from a cloud of fire with an army of monsters and bring forth the storm of Armageddon to the world. However, when the red sun sets and the blue moon rises in the west, the Earth's guardian monsters shall appear to save humankind. Should the great guardian beasts alone fail, the Alpha Force of Nature will arise to quell the destruction of the one who is many upon the world in which they clash. In the end, only one shall stand and the other shall fall."

While the G.D.F. assure the Shobijin that no such thing will happen, seeing as how both monsters are completely immobilized, the G.D.F. base is attacked by the alien machine, now codenamed "MechaGodzilla", due to its similar appearance to Godzilla himself. MechaGodzilla unleashes all its firepower onto the base, awakening Gigan in the process. Gigan and MechaGodzilla team up and simultaneously attack the G.D.F. base, inflicting heavy casualties and incapacitating almost all weaponry, save for Kiryu. Soon after, the three monsters leave the area. The Shobijin warn that the battle between good and evil will happen soon and monsters will be forced to choose sides.

The authorities of G.D.F. plea with the Shobijin to summon Mothra for help, assuring them that Kiryu will be at her side, but they warn that Mothra and Kiryu alone, even combined with the other guardians, will not defeat King Ghidorah, and their only hope would be for Godzilla to join forces with them as well. Against better judgement, the G.D.F. agree. Having regained her strength, Mothra flies to Monster Island only to find Godzilla and his friends battle against DesGhidorah. Arriving in a hail of energy beams, Mothra relentlessly blasts the three-headed monster. Fighting side by side, Godzilla and Mothra both destroy the dragon. Conversing, Mothra attempts to convince Godzilla to set aside their differences and save the planet from King Ghidorah. Realizing the seriousness of the situation, Godzilla decides to help. Suggesting his fellow monsters as well as his son stay behind, Godzilla leaves with Mothra, unaware they are being followed by Zilla.

Part II: Rise of Armageddon[]

A pair of Gyaos gliding across the skies are destroyed by Gamera. However, the turtle guardian is too knocked out of the sky and into the sea by Gigan and MechaGodzilla. Godzilla and Mothra reappear near Mount Fuji only to witness three Kamacuras attacking the rock. Soon after Godzilla kills the Kamacuras trio, Gigan and MechaGodzilla meet the two monsters. The four monsters engage in combat, with Godzilla seemingly able to hold off both the two aliens. However, the tides turn when they resort to projectile attacks. Though Mothra and Godzilla do the same, the battle is once again at a draw until Destoroyah arrives. Zilla appears and confronts the crustacean like monster. Another pair of Gyaos attack as well, but Gamera soon arrives in time to aid them and kills one of the Gyaos. The other Gyaos, however, escapes. Gamera assists Godzilla and Mothra against the other monsters. When Gigan becomes close to freeing King Ghidorah, the subterranean burrowing guardian monster Baragon finally arrives.

The humans overseeing the battle as well as the monsters witness the meteor explode, unleashing King Ghidorah. Upon being greeted by his zealot followers and them submitting to his rule, King Ghidorah is confronted by the other monsters, including Godzilla. While the monsters fight one another, Godzilla and King Ghidorah battle one on on. They fight at equal strength, each immune to the other's attacks. The entire fight goes to a standstill. Amidst the battle, Mothra's larva senses her mother's deteriorating strength and hatches prematurely to help her. Though its energized silk seems to turn the tide of battle, King Ghidorah bites the larva. Desperate, Mothra airlifts her daughter to safety while Godzilla keeps King Ghidorah at bay. Charges a nuclear pulse, Godzilla unleashes it, vaporizing the entire area and burying most of the monsters.

All the monsters recover from the attack, however, MechaGodzilla is destroyed in the process. Sensing the power of his new enemy, King Ghidorah and his remaining followers flee in different directions. After telling Zilla to warn the other monster on Monster Island, Godzilla follows King Ghidorah, Baragon follows Gigan, and Gamera follows Destoroyah. Meanwhile, after lowering her offspring into the sea, Mothra collapses from her age, wounds, and weariness and sinks to her death. The distraught larva attempts to save its mother, but to no avail. Angered, the young moth travels to a remote island and creates a cocoon to begin her metamorphose. Godzilla appears on an island off the coast of Japan, feeding off a nuclear power plant to increase his power. Destoryah lands on Monster Island, with all the monsters there to stand against him. Gigan arrives in Okinawa to draw out King Caesar. When Baragon tries to thwart him, the dinosaur guardian is almost killed until King Caesar is awakened and the two guardians fight side by side. While King Ghidorah's followers go on a rampage across the world, King Ghidorah himself flies over Tokyo and causes destruction throughout the city until he begins to capture humans inside a huge, pulsating organic dome and brings them to the center of the city. With none to oppose him, King Ghidorah lets out a piercing shriek, awakening other dormant monsters around the entire world.

Just as he is about to devour his victims, Godzilla (accompanied by Manda who fights Ebirah) arrives just in time to knock King Ghidorah off his feet with a blast of his atomic breath. Godzilla emerges from Tokyo Bay and comes ashore, intent on defeating King Ghidorah. Engaging, the two monster battle until King Ghidorah overpowers Godzilla and prepares to kill him. Soon, the larva emerges as a swarm of multi-colored butterflies before coalescing into her adult form, Prime Mothra, and taking to the air to confront King Ghidorah. Arriving to help Godzilla, Mothra interrupts the battle and attacks King Ghidorah, but Godzilla comes to her aid and briefly incapacitates King Ghidorah. Regrouping, the two monsters join forces once more and battle against King Ghidorah together in Tokyo.

Godzilla: The King of the Monsters and titular protagonist, Godzilla is a fire-breathing, amphibious, irradiated theropod dinosaur called Godzillasaurus mutated by the atomic radiation of the Hydrogen Bomb and is attracted to power plants all over Japan. While battling various monsters, Godzilla continues training his son Junior to be the monster prince. Now he has become part of the foretold battle between the ancient guardians (Mothra, Baragon, and King Caesar) and the aliens (King Ghidorah and Gigan). After terrorizing the city of Japan for the past 50 years, Godzilla eventually becomes the Defender of Japan and the only hope in defeating King Ghidorah. He gathers all the Monster Island residents together to fight against King Ghidorah and his followers. Godzilla will also follow the dragon across the world, if he has too, to defeat any monsters under the control of the aliens invading his home planet in order to protect his home.
Mothra: The Guardian of the Earth and deuteragonist, Mothra is a giant, divine, butterfly-like deity and the third guardian monster who becomes the last of her kind upon her mother's death. She was sent by the people of Infant Island in order to protect the Earth and save the trapped people in the giant dome. Like her ancestor did 13,000 years ago, she battles the powerful King Ghidorah. Eventually, after hatching, she becomes the most powerful of her species and joins forces with Godzilla to aid him in the final battle with King Ghidorah, as she is prophesized to do so.
Godzilla Junior: The Son of Godzilla, Godzilla Junior is an adolescent Godzillasaurus who aids his father in fighting various monsters, including both the residents of Monster Island and the Alien Invaders.
Anguirus: The Fierce Armored Dragon Monster, Anguirus is a giant ankylosaurus-like kaiju that somehow survived the extinction of the dinosaurs. After losing in a fight with Godzilla, Anguirus became Godzilla's most trusted friend and closest ally. He now battles alongside the protectors of Earth and will stand at Godzilla's side to defeat the alien monsters until the end.
Rodan: The Giant Monster of the Sky, Rodan is a giant, irradiated pteranodon that somehow survived the extinction of the dinosaurs. Rodan is another one of Godzilla's allies and aids both him and Mothra in the defeat of the alien monsters, including King Ghidorah.
Baragon: The God of the Earth, Baragon is a small, ancient, red, subterranean, fire-breathing dinosaur-like reptilian monster who can burrow underground and the first guardian monster. After fighting the aliens alongside Mothra and King Caesar, as he did thousands of years ago, Baragon goes to Monster Island.
King Caesar: The Guardian Monster of Okinawa, King Caesar is a giant, lion/shisa-like deity creature who represents the Azumi Royal family and is the second Guardian monster. King Caesar, along with Mothra and Baragon, awakens to help Godzilla stop the alien invaders. Once they are defeated, King Caesar returns to his home in Okinawa.
Mothra Larvae: Divine, caterpillar-like deities, the Larvae are the twin children of Mothra who aid their mother and Godzilla in the final battle with King Ghidorah.
Manda: The Undersea Guardian Monster Dragon, Manda is a giant sea serpent. An old and close friend and companion to Godzilla, she joins him and the others to defeat the alien invaders and any who support them.
Varan: The Unbelievable Monster from the East, Varan is a giant, prehistoric monitor lizard-like tri-phibian monster that can fly with gliding abilities. Varan is a monster at home in the hills and forests of Earth, specifically Monster Island. He can glide with his flying squirrel-like folds.
Kumonga: The Queen of Monster Island, Kumonga is a giant spider and the main antagonist of the Monster Island community. An adversary of Godzilla's, Kumonga lost a fight with him and eventually joins forces with him, aiding the other monsters in order to defeat King Ghidorah.
Rainbow Mothra: The mother of Mothra and Godzilla's former foe who reluctantly allies herself with the Monster King to stop King Ghidorah. However, she died via suffering fatal injuries in a battle against King Ghidorah himself at Mt. Fuji.
Kong: The Eighth Wonder of the World and the King of Skull Island, Kong is a giant gorilla-like monster and the last member of his species. Apparently an "old friend" of Godzilla's, Kong travels from his home of Skull Island and arrives in Tokyo to assist in defeating King Ghidorah.
Gamera: The Guardian of the Universe, Gamera is a giant, ancient, flying, fireball-breathing turtle that was created thousands of years ago by an advanced civilization to defend the Earth from world-threatening forces as well as exterminate the invading Gyaos, a race of vampiric bird-like creatures.
Battra: The Black Mothra, Battra is an evil, dark divine moth-like deity created by the Earth to kill lifeforms that destroy it. Dissuaded from his original intent on destroying humanity due to seeing them as the Earth's greatest threat, Battra arises once more and battles alongside the Earth Guardians to defeat King Ghidorah.
Zilla Junior: A giant, mutated marine iguana-like monster and the only surviving offspring of the original Zilla. Due to their similarities, Zilla Junior has developed a kinship with Godzilla. As a result, Zilla Junior is very protective of Godzilla and has the power to sense when Godzilla is in danger. Zilla appears at the climax of the war to help defeat King Ghidorah.
Kiryu: The primary mecha-defender of Japan, Kiryu is a cyborg identical to Godzilla and constructed by EDF, or Earth Defense Force, to serve as humanity’s defender. An enemy of Godzilla's, Kiryu was originally built to battle Godzilla but even after their last fight, EDF has Kiryu join forces with and aid Godzilla in order to wipe out the alien invading monsters.
King Ghidorah: The King of Terror and main antagonist, King Ghidorah is an evil, divine, extraterrestrial three-headed dragon as well as Godzilla and Mothra's archenemy. King Ghidorah arrived on Earth with his subordinate Gigan thousands of years ago and almost exterminated all of life on Earth before the guardian monsters Mothra, Baragon, and King Caesar awoke to stop him. King Ghidorah was defeated and imprisoned in a giant rock-like meteorite. He has lied dormant in space ever since. Now free to finish what he started, he has created a giant dome to feed on the human race and now only Godzilla and Mothra can stop him.
Gigan: The Cyborg of the Century and a primary villain of the film, Gigan is a cycloptic-cybernetic creature with bladed arms and a buzz saw in its chest. Gigan is King Ghidorah's lieutenant as well as his most trusted servant, who accompanied him to Earth 13,000 years ago. After King Ghidorah was defeated and imprisoned, Gigan retreated but returned only for him to be imprisoned 10,000 years ago. He was eventually set loose to free and serve King Ghidorah once again.
MechaGodzilla: The Magnificent Machine, MechaGodzilla is a cybernetic-alien-mecha-monster replica/double of Godzilla with mysteriously unknown origins and is made of Space Titanium. MechaGodzilla aids the alien monsters in their invasion of Earth, serving King Ghidorah.
Desghidorah: Also known as Death Ghidorah, Desghidorah is a powerful three-headed dragon-like monster and King Ghidorah's distant relative. Desghidorah joins King Ghidorah to destroy the world.
Destoroyah: Also called the "Destroyer", Destoroyah is an immensely powerful crustacean-like monster composed of millions of Precambrian microscopic lifeforms mutated by the very weapon that was thought to have killed the species in 1954. Destoroyah aids King Ghidorah in his quest.
Megalon: A "Beetle God" of the underwater civilization of Seatopia, Megalon is an insectoid-like monster. He sides with the Alien Invaders to serve under King Ghidorah.
Hedorah: The Smog-Monster, Hedorah is a giant, alien tadpole-like creature who is a recurring enemy of Godzilla's and supports the alien monsters in their invasion, serving at King Ghidorah's side.
Megaguirus: The Ferocious Lifeform, Megaguirus is a giant, prehistoric dragonfly-like monster who even now has a taste for Godzilla's blood and requires Godzilla's energy to survive. She joins forces with King Ghidorah.
Ebirah: The Horror of the Deep, Ebirah is a giant lobster. One of the Monster Island community antagonists, he later falls under King Ghidorah's influence after the King of Terror installs a mind control and commands Ebirah to guard Tokyo Bay while he feeds on the human race. Ultimately, Ebirah is defeated by Manda.
Titanosaurus: A prehistoric marine reptilian-like monster with a desire for power to take revenge against humanity for disturbing his slumber. While not inherently evil, Titanosaurus methods and behavior puts himself at odds with the Earth Guardians and Global Defense.
Gyaos: The Shadows of Evil, the Gyaos are a species of malevolent carnivorous vampire bat-like monsters reawakened by environmental pollution.
Moguera: A pigeon-like robot that was created by a terrorist organization and at first battles Godzilla on Monster Island then terrorized a small village but was eventually defeated by Mothra.
Kamacuras: A giant, mutated praying mantis that fought Godzilla at Mount Fuji with three others of its kind, but all four of them were defeated.
Ookondoru: A giant bird of prey-like monster.
Maguma: A prehistoric, walrus-like reptilian monster.
Kamoebas: A giant, mutant rock turtle-like monster.
Deutalios: Deutalios is a fish/rat-like monster.
Ganimes: A giant stone crab-like monster.
Oodako: A giant octopus-like monster.
Gezora: An alien squid-like monster.
Warbats: Are snake-like monsters.
