King Caesar (キングシーサー, Kingu Shīsā), also known as the Second Guardian, is an ancient shisa kaiju. The guardian monster of Okinawa, King Caesar first appeared in Mothra II: Arrival of Ghidorah and assists Mothra and Baragon in defeating King Ghidorah and Gigan.

In Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah, when the invaders return thousands of years later, King Caesar awakens from his millennia sleep to fight against the monsters of destruction alongside Earth's other monsters, such as Godzilla. Following King Ghidorah's defeat, King Caesar returns to Okinawa.

Name[]

King Caesar's Japanese name, "Kingu Shisa", was made by putting together "king" and "shisa", a prevalent creature in Okinawa mythology and of Chinese origin.

Appearance[]

King Caesar's appearance was inspired by the shisa, a mythological beast resembling a combination of a dog and a lion.

In his original appearance in Mothra II: Arrival of Ghidorah, King Caesar's snout is dinosaur-like, with several teeth visible when his mouth is open. His upper half is covered in golden fur and his lower half has fur only on its legs and tail. His skin is brick-like, and his claws are long. His gemstone-like eyes are red, he has a horn on his forehead, and his ears are bent, similar to a dog's.

In his latest appearance in Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah, King Caesar is similar to his original appearance, but has some small differences. His ears are much longer, his eyes are human-like with orange irises, and he has less fur, only reaching down to his chest. The legs also have small amounts of fur. While closely resembling his initial design, his scaly skin is also more detailed with a very pronounced red brick-like texture. Additionally, there is a crown on his head.

Roar[]

King Caesar's roars are a combination of thunder sounds mixed with a lion's growl and an elephant's trumpet.

Personality[]

Like most other guardian monsters, King Caesar is concerned with the well-being of humanity and will respond to events that threaten human beings.

Origins[]

King Caesar is the benevolent, mystical, legendary guardian of the Azumi family of Okinawa, an island part of the Kyushu archipelago in Japan. In times of danger, King Caesar can be awakened from his deep sleep by a member of the family through an ancient song. According to legend, long ago, he appeared and helped the Okinawans to drive off invaders from the mainland.

History[]

Mothra II: Arrival of Ghidorah[]

King Caesar (Showa)

King Caesar in Mothra II: Arrival of Ghidorah

In Mothra II: Arrival of Ghidorah, King Caesar, the ancient guardian of the Azumi family, is awakened to protect the family from the two alien monsters Ghidorah and Gigan along with Baragon 13,000 years ago. King Caesar and Baragon fight their best until they are both overwhelmed by the combined forces of Ghidorah and Gigan. Mothra arrives to help stop the alien monsters. Soon enough, with the combined might of the guardian trio, both monsters are beaten, with Gigan retreating and ending Mothra, Baragon and King Caesar using their combined powers to defeat Ghidorah.

After King Ghidorah is imprisoned in a giant rock and Mothra sends it into space, she returns to thank Baragon and King Caesar for their assistance. While Mothra flies back to Infant Island and Baragon burrows away somewhere underground, King Caesar ventures to a cave to heal his wounds. Since then, he has laid dormant for many millennia.

In Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah, when King Ghidorah's return had come to be, the Azumi Royal family decide to awaken King Caesar once more. Gigan had been sent to destroy him. Though Baragon intercepts, Gigan races to destroy the sleeping guardian. While that happens, the ancient song is sung and King Caesar erupts from the mountain and takes on Gigan. Together with Baragon, the two guardians defeat their old enemy once again, destroying Gigan.

Baragon and King Caesar arrive together in Japan to battle King Ghidorah alongside other monsters. When all hope seems lost, Godzilla is brought back with newfound power via Mothra and defeats King Ghidorah once and for all. After King Ghidorah is eradicated, King Caesar then returns to his cave in Okinawa and collapses the entrance, burying himself to peacefully sleep and heal his wounds.

Powers and Abilities[]

Energy deflection & reflection[]

Perhaps King Caesar's most notable power is his ability to draw the energy beams of enemy monsters into his eyes and fire it back at the target. He used this with great effectiveness against Gigan. He was also able to use this against King Ghidorah

Fire balls[]

In Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah, King Caesar has the ability to unleash powerful, explosive balls of fire from his mouth.

Intelligence[]

In both his appearances, King Caesar also displayed a degree of strategy during his fight with King Ghidorah and Gigan, coordinating his attacks along with other monster (i.e, Mothra, Baragon, Anguirus, and Rodan).

Lightning bolt[]

In Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah, King Caesar displays the ability to launch a very powerful white bolt of lightning from his mouth. This lightning bolt was strong enough to cause King Ghidorah pain as well as create explosions.

Physical abilities[]

King Caesar possesses formidable speed, strength, and agility, enabling him to use various martial arts techniques, making him a formidable foe in close combat. He is rock-solid, able to withstand a horrible beating before going down. He is also capable of performing amazing jumping and leaping abilities as well.

King Caesar has survived multiple beatings from King Ghidorah, getting thrown around, even on Anguirus' carapace.

Physical strength[]

King Caesar has shown incredible strength, kicking Anguirus around like a ball so hard, it threw him across at least a couple hundred meters away.

Speed & agility[]

King Caesar has been shown to be incredibly swift and fast, outpacing Gigan. King Caesar was able to jump around, getting on top of a mountain to launch himself, as well as jumping up to kick Anguirus.

Solar heat beams[]

In Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah, King Caesar possesses the ability to absorb raw solar energy into his body and transform it into very powerful, explosive, searing heat beams of solar energy launched from his eyes.
